My love affair with animals began in early childhood. My mother, my first influence, always loved and enjoyed animals and allowed me to have all kinds of pets. I grew up with dogs, cats, birds and fish – all loved, nurtured and adored. Every stray who wandered our way found a new home.
Animals have never failed to amaze me or to touch my heart with their constant love for their two-legged human companions. With the exception of my university years, I have never been without a pet. To me, a house is not a home without animals.
Throughout my life, I have been an animal advocate. I contribute regularly to animal rescue and wildlife organizations, managed a feral cat colony in Queens, and have rescued stray cats and dogs on my own.
My own adorable kitties -- Teddy, Tigger, Peanut and FiFi -- were all rescued by me: Peanut, now 9, was found as a 2-week old kitten in a vacant lot in Queens. I brought Tigger, now age 6, home with me one snowy February night from my MetroNorth train station. I found Teddy, now four, chasing a candy wrapper in the wind on a busy street corner in Brooklyn at 7 months old. And I rescued FiFi, just under a year old, from a dilapidated row house in Philadelphia. Her family had heartlessly abandoned this gorgeous calico.
In June 2007, I left behind the trials and tribulations of the corporate world after 20 years as a journalist and editor. My decision to create a pet-sitting service grew out of my devotion to animals and a recognition that there just aren’t enough pet sitters to go around in this area.
My goal is to provide the kind of loving care for my customers’ pets that I want for my own. Pets are happiest when they are looked after in their own home by caretakers who love and respect them -- and their people can relax knowing that their pet is safe and secure in a familiar environment.
I am a member of Pet Sitters International and Professional United Pet Sitters LLC, am fully accredited by Pet Sitters International, trained in pet care and first-aid, and am insured and bonded.
